Due to NFL roster listings and official depth changes over the past couple years with the uptick in players having hybrid positions and formations (no longer just pure 3-4 or 4-3 defensive structures) during games we have seen a new position listing pop on some NFL officially listed rosters on their team websites. The EDGE position mainly but also some others like SAM, WILL, MIKE and possibly others aside from the standard DL/DE/DT for lineman and the many other LB variations like LB, OLB, ILB and others. Due to this the Executive Committee has met and agreed unanimously to add the following to the constitution effective for the 2022 season beginning with position eligibility for incoming 2022 rookies eligible for the college draft and they subsequently the FA auction for undrafted players and to be carried forward thru subsequent seasons.
- For the purposes of BSL position eligibility, any player that is listed on a NFL team’s official roster, depth chart, and/or gamebook, as EDGE will be considered a DL in our league database. Within the standard position eligibility change rule if that player does show up in a gamebook at a LB variable position (LB, OLB, MLB, etc.) after 2 consecutive games they will be changed to LB regardless of listings on official rosters or published depth charts as is in line with any other player.
- For the purposes of BSL position eligibility, any player that is listed on a NFL team’s official roster, depth chart, and/or gamebook, as SAM/WILL/MIKE or similar will be considered a LB in our league database. Within the standard position eligibility change rule if that player does show up in a gamebook at a DL variable position (DL, DT, DE, EDGE, etc) after 2 consecutive games they will be changed to DL regardless of listings on official rosters or published depth charts as is in line with any other player.
- Regarding potential position changes during the preseason or during the regular season, as we have always done and same criteria as the EDGE or LB listings, we use the NFL teams official website’s roster and depth chart as the 1st and primary indicator. NFL.com is secondary as we watch how they are listed in official weekly gamebooks. Players can change position AT ANY TIME based on listings and usage. Keep that in mind.
- For the purposes of in season ROSTER INTEGRITY rules, if your player changes position during the regular season or playoffs, and that change would then make you in violation of the Roster Integrity rule, you are awarded an additional FREE waiver during the week of the change to pick up a player at the newly in violation position. Keep in mind you still need to make room for that player on the roster but you do not have to use your regular free weekly waiver or trade for one if you don’t wish to. You ONLY receive this additional free waiver if you would now be in violation of the Roster Integrity rule. You do not get it of the change would simply move that player but you have other players to keep you within the RI rules.
